pH and acidity in swimming pools
The pH in the swimming pool, as in any aqueous solution, is absolutely fundamental.
You can't even imagine how important these two letters can be: they are the cornerstone of active disinfection.
It is important to know that the ORP, or oxidation state in the pool, and therefore its disinfection, are closely linked.
Any type of sanitizing agent in a swimming pool can really work fully only if we have fully oxygenated water with a pH of around 7.6.
It is important not to confuse acidic water with basic water.
ACID water: low pH (below 7.2)
BASIC water: high pH (above 7.6)
Why does pH go up and down?
The acidity in the pool is subject to variations for a whole series of circumstances. The main reason for these imbalances is certainly the most common and “pleasant”: bathing, with all the “contamination” based on sun creams and various tanning products. Another aspect that can raise the pH of our pool is certainly rain.
In these cases, it is absolutely essential to act on purity with the right product: pH Minus.
If the water smells like chlorine, it most likely means that the pH is high and, therefore, there may be irritation and red eyes.
If, however, the water is oily and slippery, then the pH is too low and, consequently, the water may be saturated and poorly oxygenated.
When you put a pH regulator in the tank, it is advisable to set the sand filtration system in "recirculation" mode for at least a couple of hours. This is to prevent the acid from dissolving iron or limestone agglomerated in our system.
