pH and acidity in swimming pools what is it?
The pH in a swimming pool, as in any aqueous solution, is absolutely fundamental. You can't even imagine how important these two letters can be: they are the fulcrum for active disinfection.
It is important to know that the ORP, or the oxidation state in the pool and therefore its disinfection, are strictly connected, because each type of sanitizing agent in a pool can really work fully, only if we have fully oxygenated water and a pH of about 7.6.
As a pool expert, I warn you: it is important not to confuse acidic water with what is usually defined as basic water. The latter, in fact, has a high pH and often exceeds 7.8. While, in the first case, acidic water usually has a rather low pH, less than 7.2.
Why does pH go up and down?
The acidity in the pool is subject to variations for a whole series of circumstances. The main reason for these imbalances is certainly the most common and “pleasant”: bathing, with all the “contamination” based on sun creams and various tanning products. Another aspect that can raise the pH of our pool is certainly rain.
In these cases, it is absolutely essential to act on purity with the right product: pH Minus. Another thing not to underestimate are the inputs that our water can give us from time to time. We just have to be good at picking them up. Two daily gestures that we can do to treat and take care of our pool in the best way are touching and smelling the water. If the water releases the smell of chlorine, it most likely means that the pH is high and, therefore, there could be irritation and red eyes. If, on the other hand, the water is oily and slippery, then the pH has a value that is too low, unusual, and, consequently, the water could be saturated and poorly oxygenated.
The advice I feel like giving you is to use only certified products like those on sale on ZavattiShop.com. So, to raise or lower the acidity and/or basicity of your pool water, all you have to do is equip yourself with pH Plus (suitable for shock treatments) or pH Minus (suitable for traditional dosages)
Finally, remember that when you add acid products to the pool to regulate the pH, you need to opt for recirculation mode for your sand filtration system for at least 2 hours, in this way you avoid the acid from dissolving iron or limestone agglomerated in our system.
For any other information, as always, I am at your complete disposal. I am Danny from ZavattiShop.com and you can get in touch with me by calling me at 334/1491755 or by sending me a message on WhatsApp.
As an alternative to chemical products, for a more thorough and complete cleaning, it would be a good idea to also equip yourself with one of our Dolphin Maytronics Pool Robots , which will, with absolutely low energy consumption, oxygenate the water in your pool, more thoroughly than chemical agents and filtration systems.
In addition to being Maytronics dealers and service centers , we are also a point of sale for the exclusive pool analyzer, all hi-tech! I'm talking about the indispensable Blue Connect , which via App can allow you, in total relaxation, to enjoy your pool and monitor it anywhere on your smartphone. Our "Conny Blue" can notify you of the following values: temperature, Ph, ORP, Oxygenation/conductivity.

The right level of acidity in the pool is essential. Water that is too acidic or too little acidic can create several problems, for example other chemical products would have a hard time working and there could be a lot of waste.
In fact, pH is a very important factor, because certain chemical processes can only occur when the water has a certain pH.
The ideal pH value in water is 7.2 – 7.4. Values other than 7.2 – 7.4 negatively affect the performance of chemical products, increase corrosion and limescale deposits, cause burning eyes and mucous membranes and limit the formation of active free chlorine.
The pH value of the swimming pool can vary due to various factors, such as the temperature of the water, the number of bathers, atmospheric agents and some types of disinfection products such as bromine, sodium hypochlorite, salt electrolysis and calcium sulphate.
PH PLUS GRANULAR BASIC PH CORRECTOR IN POWDER FOR POOLS
APPLICATION: pH plus G is a granular solid, with a buffer effect, suitable for increasing and stabilizing the pH of swimming pool water. Product free from chlorides and phosphates.
USE AND DOSAGE: Approximately 20 to 30 g of product per 10 m3 of water to increase the pH by 0.1 units. Dissolve the product in a bucket of water and then disperse directly into the tank.
COMPOSITION: Sodium bicarbonate.
To increase the pH in a swimming pool, you need to use massive doses, otherwise you risk having to repeat the operation countless times without results.
The pH value of the swimming pool can be low due to acidic substances used (for example for cleaning the pool), low alkalinity of the water, acid rain, number of swimmers and other factors.
In accordance with the provisions relating to the classification, packaging and labelling of chemical mixtures and detergents, Ph Plus is registered with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) with preparation code 13700-4.
