Product Features:

SmartRow is an intelligent power meter that provides an extremely accurate measurement of your WaterRower's performance.

Fitted as a replacement for the WaterRower pulley, the electronics inside the SmartRow measure absolute force and stroke length to calculate power output, regardless of the water level in the tank or the tightness of the recoil bungee.

Available for all WaterRower wooden models, SmartRow wirelessly transmits real-time workout data via Bluetooth to the SmartRow app on your handheld device.

Ideal for anyone who is serious about tracking their performance, SmartRow (along with the SmartRow app) turns your WaterRower into a lab ergometer. Not only will it show you power, distance, work per stroke, calories, etc.,

It will show you every strength curve, heart rate graph and much more! SmartRow lets you track your workouts, and also displays well-known fitness metrics like "Watts-per-Beat" and "Watts-per-Kilogram".

NB SmartRow is compatible with all Bluetooth heart rate monitoring straps, sold separately.

Due to the precise nature of the SmartRow mechanism, it is not possible to have the device pre-installed on a WaterRower and shipped via courier. Full instructions are provided to assist in upgrading the SmartRow to your WaterRower at home.

Hardware FAQ:

Do I need to calibrate the SmartRow like with a power meter on a bicycle?
You don’t have to calibrate anything at all! SmartRow will calibrate itself and, in doing so, will automatically adjust to changes in spring rate based on temperature and time.

Which heart rate monitors are compatible with SmartRow?
The SmartRow app is compatible with most Bluetooth Heart Rate bands on the market. Make sure it uses the open standard Bluetooth protocol. We recommend using Polar H7 / H10 (a chest strap is the most accurate) or Polar OH1 if you prefer an optical heart rate monitor.

What batteries should I use and how many hours can I row on my batteries?
We recommend 3 AA 2600mAh alkaline batteries. Another 1.5 volt AA will work, but this may affect the number of hours you can row. With most battery qualities you can row at least 50 hours.

Can I play music during my SmartRow workout?
Yes, you can! The Bluetooth connection is designed so that you can use a different Bluetooth connection to play music while you work out.

How do I turn on SmartRow?
A tap will activate SmartRow. When you see two blue LEDs flashing, SmartRow will start searching for a connection. If there is no Bluetooth connection within 1 minute, it will turn off by itself.

The blue LEDs are flashing, now what?
SmartRow is searching for a Bluetooth connection. Open the SmartRow app and press the Bluetooth button or go to settings to start a connection.

Are the blue LEDs inside the SmartRow pulley not flashing at all?
Start rowing a few strokes and the SmartRow blue LEDs should start flashing for a minute, if not, try the following:
Check batteries and/or battery connection.
Make sure SmartRow is not already (automatically) connected to one of your devices. To be 100% sure, enable Bluetooth only on the device you want to pair with.

A red LED lights up, what does it mean?
Your batteries need to be replaced.

Connectivity FAQ

Blue LEDs are flashing but I can't get a Bluetooth connection?
Connect your SmartRow only in the app and do not connect it in your device's Bluetooth settings. The SmartRow Pulley will not appear in the app if it was previously connected in your device settings. Reset the BT configuration from your device and/or turn Bluetooth off and on and try again.
Make sure you are running the latest software on your device and regularly update the SmartRow app.
Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled.
Try connecting SmartRow with another phone or tablet.

I have a Bluetooth connection but can't start a workout?
Make sure the SmartRow is mounted correctly. If you are sitting on your WaterRower, the SmartRow battery cable should be on the left side. If not, it is mounted incorrectly. When the SmartRow is mounted incorrectly and is moved downwards, it will not detect any rowing motion.

Are you connected to the right SmartRow? If a connection is initiated, the flashing blue LEDs should turn off within two seconds. If your SmartRow's LEDs continue to flash, you are probably connected to a different SmartRow. This is where the two-digit SmartRow ID number comes in handy.

I can't connect to my heart rate monitor?
Connect your heart rate monitor only in the app and do not connect it in your device's Bluetooth settings. The SmartRow app will not be able to detect the HRM if you do this. Reset the BT configuration from your device and/or turn Bluetooth on and off.
Make sure you are running the latest software on your device and running the latest SmartRow app.
